MY SPECIALTIES

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

Sometimes we face mental health or personal challenges that we can neither handle alone nor share with others. As a result we can feel overwhelmed, experience negative thoughts, excessive worry, or self-doubt. Speaking with a professional counselor in confidence can help you understand your emotions and strengthen your mental well-being by helping you reflect, rethink and develop tools for living.

COUPLES/MARRIAGE THERAPY

"Couples" therapy is for two individuals that are committed to one another. Whether you've been married for 30 years, recently engaged, or simply committed to one another, couples therapy can help couples learn to communicate more effectively and experience an increase in connectedness and intimacy.

ADOLESCENT COUNSELING

Adolescents go through significant changes in their bodies, in their thinking and in their rapidly expanding worldviews. They are constantly exposed to things they don't understand and feelings they can't control. They need a safe space to share their feelings, ask questions and learn tools to cope with a world that often seems unfriendly.

FAMILY THERAPY

Families are as unique and diverse as the individuals that make them up. Whether you are a two-parent, single-parent, no parent or blended family household, counseling can help foster better connections, improve communications and resolve outstanding conflicts between family members. You will also develop skills for listening, self awareness and objectivity that will improve family relationships.

DEPRESSION

Are you experiencing sadness, insomnia, loss of appetite, weight gain/loss, and loss of interest in activities you once loved? About 8% of individuals suffer some form of depression and both the levels and frequency of depression are rapidly increasing among adults and children in recent years. Participating in therapy can help relieve depressive symptoms.

GRIEF

Losing a loved one is often the most difficult experience in our lives. The grieving process is different for everyone and can last weeks, months or even years. Grieving is unhealthy when it interferes with everyday living. Counseling can help you cope with your grief in healthy ways which enable you to fully engage and enjoy life.

STRESS & TRAUMA

When we experience trauma or personal challenges that are prolonged or frequent, we can become stressed, leading to mental and physical anguish. Trauma can include abuse, neglect, violence, or substance abuse at any point in our lives. Working with a therapist can help release the hold that trauma and stress have on the mind, liberating you to fully engage with the individuals and groups in your life.

ANXIETY

For many of us, some situations cause a rush of adrenaline and an increased heart rate and fear that create a fight or flight response. These situations and others like them create a high level of anxiety in us. Counseling can provide coping mechanisms to help deal with anxiety and bring our fear & worries under control. If you frequently experience a high level or lasting anxiety, therapy can help you recognize the signs and curb the attack before it happens.

PARENTING DIFFICULTIES

If children came with instruction manuals, parenting would be much easier. With bullying, social media/internet, complex social groups, rigorous educational demands, and competing priorities, raising children can be difficult and stressful. Counseling can help parents develop strategies to better parent their children with less anxiety and uncertainty.

LIFE TRANSITIONS

We experience many life transitions as we journey through life. Our first job, marriage, a new baby, graduation, divorce, an empty-nest, retirement, health issues, career change, retirement or caregiving for a parent or spouse. Counseling can help you navigate these transitions and foster mental well-being though increased understanding and development of coping tools.
